I went home and checked. I no longer have the bill for the Maui stay, but I seem to recall getting points for the spa.

In Orlando we received points for the spa but did not receive points for the beauty salon. We also received points for valet parking.

I agree that the hotel should find a way to advise people they will not recieve points for services/activities before they are used.
