I called up UA and the rep said that she could see that the award flights are canceled and there is no option to move us to the "new TK flight" at the later time as she could not even see the new TK flight in the system. There is also no other option through other partners in J at the old pricing (haven't really pressed on this issue). I read through the posts in this thread and it seems there are two potential request routes I can make:
1) There is a partner liaison team with UA who can make a request to re-accommodate due to a schedule change on the flight matching the original routing/timings.
2) Call TK and ask them to change to an acceptable flight ... UA can then re-issue the ticket.
Has anyone encountered a similar situation recently and gotten re-accommodate on TK?
If there is no award availability on the other SFO flight that day that you were rebooked, UA wouldn't be able to rebook you automatically to that flight. They have most likely merged two flights to one on the day you were ticketed to fly.
UA could contact the TK liaison team and request seats for you.
TK wouldn't touch your ticket as your ticket has been issued by United. Calling TK would be useless at this point.
So, option 1 seems much more reasonable for you.
