The problem is that the PCR test needs to be done within 72 hours of flight departure. So finding a place with that rapid of turn around time for a nucleic acid test (ie PCR) is very difficult. Most places take 2-3 days after receipt to provide a result. The samples are batch shipped, usually every evening. So if timed correctly you could potentially get a negative test result before leaving for the airport, but I wouldn't count on it.

In my situation, I had two different PCR tests done before I left US (one at T-72 hours and another at T-48 hrs). The first test result did not arrive until I was mid-way in the air between EWR and BOM. The second test arrived about a week later.
Did UA let you board at EWR without a negative PCR-RT test result??
