I've put together an 18 question trivia contest about DTW, my hometown airport. All questions are based on the July, 1977 OAG.
Here are the first 6 questions:
1. At 6:27 AM, DL 245 pushes back. It makes three stops before reaching its final destination. 19 minutes later, DL 343 pushes back for a final destination just 42 miles north of DL 245’s destination. It also makes three stops. The final enroute stop of both flights is the same, and both flights have the same equipment. Provide the full routing and equipment of both flights.
Answered. One flight was DTW-TOL-LEX-ATL-PBI, and the other flight was DTW-FWA-IND-ATL-FLL. The equipment was 727-200s.
2. At 7:50 AM, a TWA 707 pushes back. It will make four intermediate stops before reaching its final destination. Name the stops.
3. Ten minutes later, an AA DC-10 pushes back for the same final destination, but with just two intermediate stops. None of the stops the AA DC-10 makes are places the TWA 707 stops at.
Answered. The TWA 707 flew DTW-STL-TUL-OKC-LAS-SFO and the AA DC-10 flew DTW-ORD-PHX-SFO.
4. Eastern had a 1x week flight from ORD to DTW, with no local traffic between the two cities. Where did EA’s flight continue to?
Answered: BDA
5. We’ve had a lot of fun with DL’s flights that serve both TOL and DTW, but two other airlines flew from TOL to DTW in July, 1977. Each airline had one flight. One airline’s flight flew xxx-xxx-xxx-TOL-DTW. The other airline flew xxx-xxx-TOL-DTW. Name the airline and equipment. Hint: Eastern wasn’t one of the two airlines.
Answered. AL was one of the two airlines, with an ALB-PHL-PIT-TOL-DTW route, on a DC-9-30. The other airline is United, on a 727-100, routed SJC-DEN-TOL-DTW.
6. Air Wisconsin flight 300 arrives at DTW at 10:45 AM. It originates in ORD, and makes stops at two airports, neither of which has scheduled service today. What’s the route of ZW 300?
Answered: EKI (Elkhart, Indiana) and BTL (Battle Creek, Michigan).
