However I can book (and have) as a round trip/return same as place as pickup. Given the above coupled with our sweet contract with Avis, should I be safe to pick up as a round trip then call corporate to switch to one way mid-rental? What’s my risk exposure here?

edit: I ran a one way search on autoslash.com and only one company is willing to rent a one way, for around $350 for one day. Naturally, it’s not the company that my employment has a contract with. The rest refuse to rent one ways by claiming no cars available.
Rental companies often restrict one-way rentals when you're trying to take a car from an area of high demand to an area of lower demand. Basically, if they don't want to move the vehicle in the direction you are going, they will charge an exorbitant price for the rental or simply choose not to allow it at all.

Your risk in doing what you are thinking of is that they will charge you a multiple of the price you booked. Or maybe none at all. It could be the exact same rate, or an extra $50 or $100 to drop it off at the other location. Or maybe it will be 10X the original rate. Your guess is as good as ours. There really isn't any way of knowing. If it were us, we probably wouldn't take the chance.

If you PM us the details, we'd be happy to take a further look into it for you though.
