Booking RT then Switching to one way mid rental

Hey AutoSlash (or anyone else who cares to help), My work has a corporate contract with Avis that provides for the same, set rates for pretty much every non-premium car class with Avis. I need to get from my home base to an airport in another city and wanted to do a one way rental. If I search for a one way, I get a notice that no cars are available. However I can book (and have) as a round trip/return same as place as pickup. Given the above coupled with our sweet contract with Avis, should I be safe to pick up as a round trip then call corporate to switch to one way mid-rental? What’s my risk exposure here?

edit: I ran a one way search on autoslash.com and only one company is willing to rent a one way, for around $350 for one day. Naturally, it’s not the company that my employment has a contract with. The rest refuse to rent one ways by claiming no cars available.
