Very possible. I used to routinely be 1 or 2 all the way through flying back to ORD from SYD or MEL, assuming I checked in at T-24.
Also, could also be a college sports team. Maybe a month or so ago there was a large group of athletes / coaches on a LAX-ORD flight I was on. Easily 20-30 or more in that group.
