Indeed, I expect it would vary wildly depending on the airline representative you speak to. It would be great if there was a clear, official example which could be printed and presented stating that if you leave before day 2, no test is needed. However, I have yet to see such a document, other than long winded texts which could be open to interpretation and need cross referencing.

However, my take on the regulations is that you could return for 1 or 2 days, quarrantine with family for example, and leave without undergoing any tests in the UK.
