An Exclusive First Look At The Tommie Hotel Austin

Austin gets another cool new hotel property this coming August—tommie Austin, a JdV by Hyatt hotel, which will debut alongside the adjoined Thompson Austin. The tommie is a youthful, savvy concept aiming to offer a fresh take on the hotel experience with amenities such as contactless check-in and mobile guest room entry. Managing Director of tommie Austin and Thompson Austin, Nate Hardesty, describes the mojo behind tommie as unique, explaining, “From the moment our guests walk through the door, they will be introduced to a thoughtfully reimagined hotel experience, intended to maximize every moment spent in the city.”

The theme here is joyful exploration—as the hotel’s designers intended it. Indeed, if this hotel had a mood board it’d be a jumble of earth tones, sleek metal finishes and rustic trimmings. The property will have 193 king guest rooms and a lobby anchored by a coffee shop, wine bar and a striking wall mural specially curated by Tom Jean Webb that reflects the story of the southwest and its surroundings. The coffee and wine bar will featuring local craft beers, natural wines, and a specialty coffee program led by Austin-based Greater Goods Coffee Co., which was named one of the top roasters in the world. Your check-in experience is what you make it, grab a coffee or beer, visit the kiosk and off you go—using your mobile device as a room key.

Bedrooms, which are all furnished with king sized beds, feature custom millwork on the ceilings and modern styling. Leaning into the warm, airy colors and sensations of the West Texas surroundings, guests will find in each bedroom a series of six panoramic images that showcase the high desert landscape, shot by the celebrated local photographer, Kenny Braun. Look for images of the Guadalupe Mountain Range and Big Bend Ranch State Park, among others.

tommie Austin and Thompson Austin will together will offer guests and locals some intriguing dining options, including a street-side dining concept, The Diner Bar and The Grey Market (from acclaimed Savannah chef Mashama Bailey).
