No, I get it. Sometimes the limited service properties provide a much better value, without attitude or pretension. We've booked the RI Wailea for a couple nights in July, just don't think the full service options are worth the going rate (north of $700/night).

Unfortunately one must be very careful these days with TA ratings as it is quite common for properties to fake reviews. It used to be easy to spot, i.e., a large number of 1 contribution 5 star reviews, but they've gotten more sophisticated.

There is a Doubletree nearby in MdR of course, however reviews are mixed and it’s set back from the beach vs the other properties mentioned as an alternative to the LXR
I think all the properties in the area get somewhat mixed reviews. There seems to be an active campaign to pump both XLR and Santa Monica Proper, which has succeeded in putting them 1 and 2 on the TA list.
