always ymmv. No airline would explicitly permit if you have separate tickets, default is for them to check admissibility based on the destination of the ticket you hold with them

CONUSA-mexico (some ticket, ignore this part)

Mexico-NRT (NH ticket) -> NH checkin wanted to see UA ticket
NRT-CONUSA (UA ticket)

UA and NH are joint venture partners for usa transpacific mostly. Not sure what happens if you have separate NH tickets (albeit issued via Virgin) or separate NH/JL tickets
