Questions about Amex referral bonuses
After many years of collecting points and miles, I'm somehow now only waking up to the benefits of referrals. So please bear with these basic questions about how it works for Amex:
1. Checking my wife's Gold card at the Amex Refer a Friend site, we see that she can get 30K points for a referral and the person to whom she sends the referral (which would be me) would get 60K (plus a $200 home furnishing store credit until 5/5) for spending $4,000 within six months of getting any qualifying Amex card, and that I would be able to choose from all available Amex personal and business cards. So if I understand this correctly, if I qualify for a given card (probably an Amex Business Gold or Business Platinum), that would be the bonus regardless of which card I'd select. Is that correct?
2. Checking my Amex Blue Business Plus card, we see that I can get 15K points for a referral and that she would get 10K points if she qualifies, but the wording is a bit different in that it specifies that 10K bonus "after they use their new Blue Business® Plus Credit Card to make $3,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of Card Membership. Your friend will be able to choose from all available American Express Personal and Business Card offers." Am I correct in assuming that, even though the Blue Business Plus is specified in the offer, the basic deal is the same as #1 - i.e., she'd get just 10K points no matter which card she'd qualify for?
I know there may be better deals out there, whether through other referrals (such as here at FT) or without going through referrals. But I just wanted to see if I understand the program correctly.
Any other advice on referrals is also welcome.
Thanks for any help.
