Then they should make that clear in my opinion.

I’ve been on fairly big trips previously where I was staying in a different hotel nearly every night for 10 nights. By the time they had all taken an authorisation, my card was maxed out! This led to an awkward situation in the final hotel where they wanted more than expected, and I was left to transfer money while I waited.

If it was made clear prior to arrival how much they would be taking, that could have been avoided as I would have made the relevant transfers before arrival. As it was, it was only when my card declined did they mention how much they were attempting to take.
