You can always use your miles to buy an award ticket for a friend or family member, but they can't pay you for the ticket in any way.

There are some DL domestic award tickets that cost less than 5,000 miles.

I'm surprised the transfer fee is as low as one cent per mile.

Sometimes it makes sense to buy a few miles from DL if you're close to an available award ticket that you want, but don't do this speculatively.
