Indeed, it's about more than just tourism money, but since we're talking about summer ..... it's mainly tourism.
Just because I am an American doesn't mean I underestimate the spend and wealth of European tourists and overestimate the spend and wealth of American tourists. Maybe I should welcome your characterization since I'm more used to being subject to accusations of underestimating the importance of American tourists in Europe and of European tourists in the US during this pandemic and over-ascribing the pandemic period drop in tourism revenue (within Europe and separately within the US) to more regional and local restrictions than to restrictions related to international long-haul flying.
I was estimating that the spending of vaccinated tourists is more welcome on the continent than the spending of the unvaccinated people who are more likely to get infected and spread this virus. That's all.
