I think that whatever security standards are agreed on, each airport should fund the security and personnel locally. By raising and spending local taxes, or ticket taxes that are collected locally.

I also believe that security standards should be subject to an inspection process by the feds, but not staffed by federal employees. Staffing should also be done locally.

I find it incredible that an airport like PVC, which serves very few people in the winter, and maybe 200 per day max in the four-month summer season, has a half dozen full time federal employees.
