Unfortunately at this point the onus is up to you to find alternatives. A key point, on non-UA flights, award space needs to be available. While in very rare cases, on request, a partner may open up award space on request from UA, I would not be hopeful about that approach.

Probably no, partners can not / will not make changes to a trip ticketed by UA.
Thank you Wine Country. I will see if UA can request a space to be opened, but I will be realistic. There is currently no other business award availability from JFK to DPS as that was pretty much EVA Air. There is some business award availability from EWR to DPS through Swiss/Turkish, but the routes/layover time is highly undesirable. I will keep my eyes out, but I'm prepared to just use miles from another program to get on Emirates or Qatar. I just didn't want to have all these UA miles sitting around if I had to cancel this ticket.
