Exactly like IMAX. The brain can really fool you as if you are watching the movie on a big screen. You can set different background like a movie theater or at your home, etc... but I set mine to Void so everything outside of the screen is black. There is also a BigScreen app that you could join other people around the world watching movies as if you are inside a movie theater or drive in. But I usually mute the other people. Most people are there to chat instead of watching the movie.
And you don't have to watch it on a laptop, you can download the movie to the headset and watch it locally. The only problem is that the basic one only has 64GB. After you install games and such, only about 40GB left. But usually I just stream it directly from the headset without using the laptop. I use Firefox Reality browser inside the Quest 2 to watch HBOmax now.
