Narrower yes, but most likely due to tray table in the armrest reducing overall seat width. Otherwise your row would protrude into aisle a couple of inches, causing a hazard to movement. You may not feel it at first but after several hours you'll notice. Can confirm this after 15 hours to SYD in normal economy and 14 hours back in exit row w/ armrest mounted tray table. I avoid exit rows on long-haul for that reason (and because of cold temps).
