I’m using 2021 to sample life as a Marriott Platinum and Hilton Diamond (and possibly 2022 as well). Perhaps my opinions will change (a mild preference to Hilton where it works, occasionally nods to IHG or Marriott, very willing to book off of hotels.com instead resigning myself to a poor location or limited choices outside the US). I’m mostly staying in mid level places with occasional splurges.
I agree with this. If you're mostly in mid-level places, I don't think that Marriott Plat will get you much, and you'll probably still prefer HH Diamond, but I personally am a strong proponent of diversification - having status with both programs gives a whole lot of flexibility to pick and choose in a given market.
