It's about demand management. Taking calls at midnight in the UK and early hours India is not idea from a workforce management point of view., so in different markets they advertise different opening hours despite the fact that mostly calls end up in New Delhi or the banks of the River Tyne. At various times the India office has been closed completely.
Maybe this will change. I'm currently working over the road from the BA contact centre in Newcastle and I can see that many people are still working from home, the car park is often quite empty with few signs of life, ditto for the AA next door. Maybe the workforce planning will be easier if the staff are able to work effectively from Shotley Bridge or Ashington rather than trrudging into the office in the middle of the night.
I cant see it happening since I think its mainly to do with the cost of paying extra rate for nightshift in UK than any other consideration.
