Why is CX liable for anything but the miles?? I am not sure about CX's Contract of Carriage, but I am pretty sure UA states in their Contract of Carriage that in the event of flight cancellations, they are only legally required to refund the ticket. Anything else, including rebooking on other airline's flights, is a goodwill gesture.
