This is less important than it seems. Most of the airlines are members of alliances, and you could redeem through Citi's partner airlines for flights operated by other airlines in the same alliance.
If I transfer TYP to a carrier where I do not have status, but use those miles towards a flight on United or AA where I do have status, my status comes through? I thought it would follow whatever the account is I bought it from. That is, I open up a Quantas or an Avianca account, transfer TYP, buy an AA or United flight, but it would say I do not have any status since it was bought off my Quantas or Avianca account.
