...I find that strange as I was expecting the fare to be "Y" fares

Not uncommon these days, in my experience. It seems I used see mixed-cabin itineraries virtually always booking into full 'Y' for the economy segment(s), but I've also seen other fare classes pop up in recent searches... not sure when/what exactly changed.
