I wouldn't consider any of the 3 Copley place hotels (Sheraton, Westin, Marriott) to be must-stay hotels or worth visiting as destinations - they're fairly standard major city/convention style hotels. Conveniently located if you need to be in the Back Bay area, and in the winter being connected to the Prudential Center gives you a lot of places to go without dealing with the weather.

The Marriott Copley pretty much has non-existent elite recognition, they (and several other Boston properties) are on the exempt list for weekend breakfast and the lounge in pre-covid times was so overrun for breakfast as to not even be worth attempting to visit - they literally had tables set up in the elevator lobby at one point. If you do go at a quieter time, the views from the windows are decent (if your room isn't on the river side to offer the same.) The lobby and the sports bar restaurant are nice but you don't need to stay there to see those.

The Sheraton Back Bay is more likely to upgrade you to a larger room, and has a nice pool (indoor/outdoor depending on the weather - the roof retracts). The lounge is also reasonably pleasant although the food isn't anything amazing. Hope that they put you in the same elevator bank if not on the same floor or you'll be taking multiple elevators to get there. I hope they update it to the new Sheraton brand standards in a renovation but doubt it'll be anytime soon - even though it could use some work.

Long Wharf is a nicer location for tourism, is also on the breakfast exempt list, and pretty much is a standard Marriott on a great piece of land.
FWIW, every time I’ve stayed at the Copley Marriott, I’ve been upgraded to some kind of decent suite without using an SNA. Even as a Gold (back when Platinum was really Gold).

Otherwise, I’d agree though, there’s nothing very special about the property. The location is pretty good though.
