Everybody's motivation is different. I, for one, am not a snow bird and not a vacationer. I'm in the USA doing my job. Therefore, don't care about the money. The cost of the hotel quarantine would be covered by my employer. However:
- I don't want to be harassed by the government for doing my job more than I'm already am
- as I work in the water treatment industry, I'm eligible for an exemption and I intend to claim it. Therefore, a non-refundable hotel booking wouldn't make too much sense. However, I'm not interested in explaining it to check in and boarding agents. Also, I'm not interested in dealing with a situation when I arrive to Canada, my exemption is not granted by the CBSA agent (rules are extremely vague) and I have no hotel booking. Crossing by car is simply much easier.
I have done 7 entries/quarantines so far, half and half. Airport used to be a joke pre-February. Now I would only do land as I value my time and my freedom and have certain dietary restrictions that likely won’t be accommodated in a govt hotel.
