My spouse is currently my only AU and I never considered adding my kids, though that calculus will change for me. At $50 per guest visit, the AU route becomes better for a couple after just 4 visits per year. I maintain this change isn't about crowding, it's about generating more annual fee income.
I do not know what your card situation is. But you should know that for the personal Platinum card, having one, two or three AUs costs the same $175. So if your kids are old enough, there is no cost to add the other two. So you bring all three PAID Platinum cardholders to the lounge to help solve the lounge over-crowding situation.
