Yes. It does not make sense to publish some "new policy" about two years before the change. And this change is also very controversial to say the least.

But the long head-start serves as a wake-up call. I'm going to have another family member apply for a new Platinum card and cancel my secondary Platinum card. At least we can get another card bonus no matter what flavor of the new Platinum card. May do the same with my secondary Gold card and collect more bonus.

This won't affect the lounge crowding at all. But this certainly contributes to the large cardholder base....
