I never in a million years even considered going back and asking for the cash now, until I read this thread. But I'm ok with my credit. They were generous on the date, it's good until 12/31/2022 (although I keep forgetting whether that is "book by" or "fly by"), in either case I'm sure it will be used.
If the flight was ultimately cancelled, you will be entitled to a refund. I did the same thing with an event that was cancelled in April 2020. I took the credit and cancelled the reservation. I called a few months later to cancel something else, and the agent said, "Oh, I noticed this credit is eligible for a refund. Want me to process it?"
DL has been incredibly generous with refunds, especially compared to other carriers.
