Adding to my thoughts about booking SMF-BOS then, this would be a trip with time with different family members, and we haven't decided if the last part would be in Sacramento or the East Bay. I don't find such good F fares out of SFO, but there are some for SJC-ORD-BOS. If we book that and there's a 30-minute change, is there a co-terminal rule that would let us change to an SFO-BOS non-stop?
