Variable Australian Departure Charge – “WG-Australian Safety and Security Charges Departure”

I have noticed that this charge varies – depending on departure airport and destination. It varies between No Charge and $109.99. Yikes.

Does anyone know why?

If departing from Sydney – the charge is not imposed

If departing from Brisbane – the charge varies between $3.22 (to HKG) and $24.93 (DOH/DXB/SIN)

If departing from Perth – the charge varies between $7.17 (HKG) and $109.99 (DOH/DXB/SIN)

FYI - I used The Matrix to check this out. For departures in May/June
