PVD was such an easy 15 min Uber, those were the days.
The harder difference now vs. last winter is that then, since date changes were free, I could book any itin, then "build" a connection myself on a preferable day that didn't exist in the system, and the CSR just substituted my choices in as a sub for the original PNR. Now, that's not an option and the word yesterday was that it would have to be two separate PNRs, re-check in, pay bag fees twice, and all that. That's the difference now. Thanks for the input!
By "date changes were free", do you mean they didn't charge a fare difference when you changed dates (since WN doesn't have change fees)? Were you booking these tickets using mullti-city (so flights were on same PNR)? Maybe I'm misinterpreting, but it sounds like you were booking multi-city on cheapest dates, and then having them rebook on your desired date for no fare difference. They should be able to exchange one multi-city ticket for another one (so you don't have to check-in twice) with no change fee, but I would expect to be charged fare differences.
