Skipping last leg on oneway flight with long layover
I am planning to fly one-way from Panama City to Istanbul. The one-way flight is around $1350, whereas a flight through IST to Dublin or Stockholm would be around $500. Both destinations currently have long layovers (around 21-22 hours). I believe I would even be entitled to free hotel stay as no earlier connections are available. With such a long layover, I should be able to check my bag to Istanbul.
The question is, once in Istanbul, would I be able to simply cancel the last leg or even better - change its date without fare recalculation? Am I going to be credited miles for the first segment? And overall, should I expect any consequences (especially to my Elite status) if I "accidentally" do not show up at the airport for my second leg? Thanks everyone for the input.
P.S. I know that "hidden city" flights are generally NOT OK, so please do not blame me for my plans. Price difference is huge...
