All the rooms - be it Grand Deluxe, Executive and even Club are pretty much the same layout / size wise and the only distinguishing factors are level and view. "Executive" rooms get some soft benefits as you highlighted and the Club rooms used to have better amenities in the room like Thann (now maybe Harnn) toiletries plus better tea / coffee and such. Of course they would get Club access as well which when in operations was usually quite good and nicer than Condrad or Grand Hyatt lounges from my point of view, but tastes differ.
Rest of your account is a fair representation I think, they have been much tighther and by the book for years without applying too much common sense or wiggle room. I had many exchanges with the front desk and management team in the past on issues and perceived penny pinching (I had about 80-100 nights there over the last years) and while in the old days - meaning many GMs prior to current leadership - they were stellar in customer service this went decidely downhill from a few years ago.
It is still a solid hotel in a great location and can work for many, but it is important to have the right expectations and understand where treatment may be better based on elite status & benefits.YMMV.
