Burning effigies are not the only speciality during this week. Another highlight is the daily mascleta, which takes place in the Plaza Ayuntamiento at 2pm, a mass of fireworks explosions, rockets and firecrackers. Each day sees different neighbourhood groups competing for the most impressive display, with the prize going to the loudest. Good standing space is hard to come by, unless you book yourself into one of the square's hotels
Were those of you there last year in one of these central Hotels or a little ways out?
If I fly into Madrid .... how far is it to Valencia?
Last time the majority of us I beleive stayed at the Melia Don Jaime Rey with Redhead staying at place out by the port (she had a real fast car) Blondebomber staying several miles out of town in the middle of a sanctuary and SanDiego1k staying at the Melia Ingles across from the ceramic museum and in what I would term nearly the middle of everything.
Where we stayed was not an unbearable walk to anything and was quite interesting especially late at night when punki and hunki needed to stop at every playground and ride the teeter-totters.
I have put in a request for a rate to 'hotelclub' for the Melia Ingles as that is my first choice and will post what they quote. Expedia is giving a rate of $101 usd for two with breakfast and I hope that hotelclub can beat that. For some reason I have not been able to get onto the Sol Melia site for a couple of days but when I did they were not showing any availability at the Ingles.
Seems to me the drive with Redhead to MAD was just a couple of hours but she had a very
fast car.
Seems most airlines have a very small add on for travel to vlc as opposed to mad but we found the least expensive for us to be sfo-lgw on AA and then U2 on a direct flight from lgw-vlc. It involves an overnighter in LON but I imagine there are worst places to overnight than LON
