No, you're definitely not the only one who's had problems.
The option to use "FFC" from the search results is new and appears to refer to some new product UA is rolling out to capture the residuals left over when someone does a flight change to a cheaper flight. If you choose it, it'll tell you "if you want to use FFC from prior to April 1, start from the reservation with the attached credit."
If you're not able to get the system to work properly via the change flight tool on the website, call.
