Yes. Marriott is definitely all-in on their franchise empire building strategy. It’s why there is a huge variance in rates and scrambling on their end wrt pricing and disappointing MB members.

I am so much happier now staying at a non Marriott property as a no status customer. Even now, I get treated better than at Marriott properties with status. Seems to me MB status is all about complaining about what’s promised but never delivered
