Worse yet is the attempted "forced switch", when you board and someone is already sitting quite deliberately in your assigned seat, and they basically refuse to give it up. Then the FA doesn't have the guts to suggest to the squatter that their behavior is inappropriate. 99% of the time the location you are expected to joyfully switch to is worse.

All the more reason to:
1) board early
2) take non-stops flights
3) avoid tight connecting flights
