I believe both are valid for ticket purchases made one year from the date of original ticket issuance (travel can take place subsequent to that).
Until AS defines what a cancellation is and what a change is, we are all guessing. I know that with award tickets, the validity was changed to be 1 year from the date of travel, not 1 year from the date of purchase. Furthermore, all open tickets remaining from 2020 were extended and valid until 12/31/2021 and can be used towards any itinerary in the calendar which would be November 2022. Perhaps, for now, these tickets last longer as I believe a cancellation to your wallet under the waiver would fall back to the purchase date.
We also don't know if a different form of credit will have the same utility nor do we know if one can be coverted to the other without a fee. We know there are no change fees, ever, but nothing is being said about cancellations. Everyone can do pretty much whatever they like with the Peace of Mind waiver and changes & cancellations are seen as synonymous. I am not convinced that utility will be available to everyone once the waiver expires.
