This is unfortunately why in my prior life as an airline Station Manager (General Manager) I muted my LinkedIn account and had to lock down other online presences. Calling and asking for by name is one thing - had one customer who swore he knew me and would leave gifts at the ticket counter for me (never met him once in my life face to face, which was creepy, especially when leaving me a Washington Nats ticket and saying "see you there" - I did not show up) - but far more people used said info for inappropriate purposes. Which usually didn't end up in their favor. Yes, some people would reach out with legitimate situations like flight schedule changed and their third party cheapoair.com agency didn't notify them, and I would override and give them a one time courtesy. But they were FAR overshadowed by people who would message me directly on LinkedIn or find me on Facebook or find my personal email (I have a relatively unique name) and send nasty and harassing messages. In 98% of the time, it was something they did wrong - like refuse to pay for a bag and cuss out the agent, or miss a flight because they showed up at the counter 15 minutes to departure, or in the worst case where my corp security actually got law enforcement involved, threatened me bodily harm because they were pulling on the office room door trying to get in to follow the supervisor (who they just spit on) and got whacked in the face when an agent opened the door not knowing they were there.
Also always thought it was fun when customers would drop my name saying that I approved this or that. My customer service managers would call me laughing because people would bring up "Well your Manager Mr XYZ said I was getting an upgrade or I don't have to pay for my bag." They would reply "I know my boss and clearly you don't because he wouldn't have told you this without telling us."
