I really don't understand the issue here. If you want to travel to see family, then do so. You don't need people's opinions or journalists telling you not to, there are 10000 loopholes in the government system to leave the country, anyone with family ties abroad can justify it, it's almost like the government wants there to be loopholes but has to act like travelling abroad is a big no no.

I agree, the government is making life as miserable as possible with the 'border tax' of 2 paid tests, but if you have to go you have to go. That 'declaration form' is the least of my worries.
It's not about people's opinions - it's about abiding by the law. While I'm furious and appalled by how the government has behaved and I disagree about these travel restrictions that don't make sense - I'm still going to follow the law. Breaking the rules just because you don't agree with them is not my thing. I'm not judging anyone for not following rules at all, it's just not something I want to do.
Also, it is not 2 paid tests - it's 4. You are looking 500-600 GBP extra just for testing, along with the other hassles of travelling now.
