My view btw is that there was never intended to be an April 5 announcement. BJ messed up in his press conference last week or whenever and confused the date when the April 12 changes would be confirmed with when the travel announcement was. And they've had to run with it.

I do think it was telling last night that first question was about family visitation overseas. Goes to show there is a lot of travel needed between a strict interpretation of the current essential requirement and package Jet2 holidays.
My biggest frustration is that this whole travel thing is branded as people wanting to go on holiday, when many of us want to see family we haven't seen in months. There has not been enough emphasis on that aspect of travel, and anyone daring to say we should be able to travel from May for non-work purposes is 'selfish' or 'doesn't care about people dying' etc.

Journalists need to push harder on questions about family traveling to see each other across borders. In any case, my opinion is that an early announcement is because of bad news, not good. I don't personally think travel will be allowed before Aug/Sep.
