I stayed at the Fairmont on opening night in a Fairmont Gold room. There were many service issues but I assume they will be ironed out as time goes on. For example, the receptionist at the lounge would seat us and then say someone will be with us shortly to ask for our coffee/tea preferences. Nobody came for 10 minutes. Same thing happened at cocktail hour.
Since the Fairmont is right next door to the Conrad, it's inevitable that the two would be compared. I prefer the room at the Conrad. I was surprised that the bathroom at the Fairmont only had one sink considering it's a new build for a luxury property. It definitely feels a bit tight and the toilet has a glass door that's not frosted. The view from the Conrad would also be better. I had a room facing the opposite direction from the OP on the second to highest floor. You can see more of the river but if you're on a high floor at the Conrad, you'll like that view better. The one aspect I preferred at the Fairmont was the afternoon tea/cocktail hour offerings at the Fairmont lounge was better than what is offered at the executive lounge at the Conrad.
I will probably try the Fairmont again in about 6-12 months to see how they've improved on the service end but it was quite disappointing. Had high expectations from a new build with the Fairmont name and while the service issues were fully expected, the hardware was disappointing.
