It is highly unlikely that UA will reimburse out-of-pocket costs for this change. In pre-pandemic times, it might have offered a very small voucher, but even that is unlikely these days.

Without knowing your routing, if there is anything reasonable on UA which gets you home without an overnight, UA will do that.

As others note, this is often covered by your travel insurance and it is worth looking at your policy to determine whether it is covered (do not rely on phone agents to determine coverage).
