Yeah, not exactly comfortable or practical when they came up with this idea in the 90’s. There’s a reason no other airline really offers this except for CX that I can think of. I think I’ve utilized the F buddy seat on CX once. If you can score the middle seats with your traveling companion next to you, it’s not worth the hassle of squeezing into one seat. I’ve flown the LAX-HKG in F and we had the middle seats next to each other. The hassle of one of us having to be uncomfortable during the meal service as opposed to just sitting next to each other was fine.
