Why are you suggesting this? Cusco has higher altitude than Urubamba or Machu Picchu.
Dzigavertov mentioned independantly hiking the Salkantay route to Machu Pichu which reaches around 15K feet/4700 meters. Some can handle this altitude with no problems but acclimatizing in Cusco for a few days is the wise thing to do, especially if arriving from sea level.
