Technically the hotel would be well within their rights to just take the money and cancel your reservation as a no-show since you said you're already within the no-cancel window. You're asking them for a favor by keeping your reservation intact. So you could very politely ask them to make sure it still registers as a two-night stay, but I wouldn't recommend making a stink about it if they don't.
Would they really be within their rights? Assuming OP arrives beforehand check in time on day two, then to be guaranteed a room then s/he would
have to book the night before. In such a case, elite nights credit would be expected. Agreed it could be different if OP arrive after check in time.
