Having flown out there a fortnight ago and returned on the BA2202 last Saturday, I can comfortably say Club was at least 80% full both ways. Most onboard appeared to be either non-UK residents, Europeans holidaying in MX who were transiting through LGW (there aren't many direct flights from the Continent and travel restrictions render MX a popular destination), people quarantining in MX before entering the US or South Americans heading home from the UK to or via CUN. There were a few Brits trying to sneak their way through, but as has been mentioned upthread, heaps of Gatwick Police turning multiple families away, although to be frank, as others have raised, it's hardly difficult to find a 'reasonable excuse' should you really want to break the English rules in their current iteration. (See
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/c...lse-pretenses/) As has been said, it sounds like they'd have got away with it had they flown from LHR! (Although LGW Border Force did ask why we'd been in Mexico and where we lived).
Whether the £5000 fine versus the existing £1000 fine will change that for you guys waits to be seen, I guess.
Either way, leisure travel bans are becoming the new normal in many countries. I believe Belgium has one and Slovakia has just announced one, too (although it is likely that it'll no doubt work on the incredibly ineffective honour system like the rest of the quarantine arrangements here)
