I'm fine with a tight connection if there are backup options available but for a once a day flight I'd feel a lot more comfortable with the 3 hour option. The vast majority of the time you'll make the 1 hour connection flight but personally I'd rather have a longer layover and smaller risk of losing a day on the islands.
