I agree, if OP is as worried about covid as you are (even in August when vaccines are widely available to everyone) then yes, that changes the calculation and makes the shorter connection more attractive. But I suspect a very small percentage of the population is that worried (and they likely aren't flying to HI anyway).

I stand by my answer for the vast majority of the population, tho clearly not for you personally.
